Mistakes in English are understandable in small shops, bars and restaurants, but you’d think that institutions like the Milan Duomo (or the Expo, for that matter) could afford professional translators. But no! The Duomo has produced a masterpiece (click here to enlarge the image)! What are leaning planes? Is there a risk of a 9/11-style attack? Have the secret services been informed? And what exactly are slipperies? And how can they cause aeroplanes to lean? What the sign should say is: “Visitors, please note that the ramps can be slippery.”
If you see English mistakes (in Italy, the UK, anywhere!) that make you scream “Aarrgghh!!!” take a photo (please make sure it’s in focus!) and send it to redazione@speakupmagazine.it
We will publish the best (that is, the worst) both here and on our Facebook page.
