Speaker: Mark Worden (Standard British accent):
The January issue of Speak Up features an interview with Melissa Plaut, author of Hack: How I Stopped Worrying About My Life and Started Driving a Yellow Cab. We asked her what she planned to do next with her life:
I want to get on a boat in New York harbor, you know, there's all this water here, where, you know, Manhattan is an island, and there's all this boating stuff that happens and I don't know anything about it, I'm very curious about it, and I've been digging around on the Internet for a couple of weeks now and I just can't find where to begin, so it's very complicated! A little bit more complicated than getting a hack licence to drive a cab, you have to get some sort of boating licence, which is… I… there's a couple… and I don't know… so that's stalling me. The other idea I had, which is… seems unrealistic – but so was driving a cab – was to try and become a corrections officer, which is like, you know, being a jail guard, essentially, 'cause they always have those ads around, "New York's boldest" and it's like, "We're hiring, New York's boldest.com," so I have a feeling I can apply for that, but I won't get hired, 'cause I'm kind of small.
