Simone Biles

La statunitense Simone Biles è la ginnasta che ha vinto più medaglie nella storia e che durante le prossime olimpiadi di Tokyo continuerà a meravigliare il pubblico con i salti mortali che prendono il suo nome.

Simone Biles is the most decorated gymnast of all time. The 22-year-old American has won twenty-five World Championship medals, nineteen of which are gold.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, Biles was brought up by her grandparents as her mother had problems with substance abuse. At six years old, Biles was discovered by a talent scout who was amazed by her abilities.
With intense training, Biles grew up to win her first US and world all-around titles in 2013. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro she broke boundaries, not only performing incredibly difficult skills but also showing a desire to innovate. Biles has two gymnastics’ moves named after her: one in the floor event, and another one on the beam, consisting of dismounting with two twists and two flips. She left Rio with four gold medals and one bronze.
Biles has shown great courage in her personal life, too. USA Gymnastics has been disgraced by the conduct of its team doctor, Larry Nassar, currently serving a life sentence for sexually abusing young gymnasts, including Biles. The gymnast has criticised the organisation for its failure to protect her and hopes that by speaking out against sexual abuse others will do the same.
This summer, Biles competes in Tokyo 2020, which will be her last Olympics. Her dream now is both humble and inspiring: to win a scholarship to the University of California and compete on its gymnastics team.
